Biginagwa is a Senior Lecturer in the department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He is a historical zooarchaeologist with a PhD from York, United Kingdom. Biginagwa’s doctoral thesis (2012) examined animal economies practiced by local communities inhabiting the Lower Pangani, northeastern Tanzania, against the context of caravan trade expansion during the nineteenth century. Biginagwa’s research interest is on the long-term historical ecology of East African landscapes over the last 500 years, the period coinciding with the main era of direct European engagement with East African region. His ongoing study on colonial heritage assets in Bagamoyo, Rufiji and Kilwa districts complement well Urithi Wetu project as it seeks to devise conservation strategies and sustainable use of the abandoned colonial buildings for socio-economic development.
